Lightning Lanes at Walt Disney World
Your Guide to Lightning Lane Multi Pass, Single Pass & How to Make the Most of Them
Walt Disney World vacations are full of fun, but also full of lines! Thankfully, Disney’s Lightning Lane system helps you spend less time waiting and more time making memories. With the 2024 updates, the system has become simpler and more flexible thanks to Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass options.
What Are Lightning Lanes?
Lightning Lanes are Disney’s “skip the line” queues — giving you access to shorter waits at select attractions. You can now choose between two types of passes:
Lightning Lane Multi Pass
Replaces the former Genie+ service.
Lets you choose up to 3 Lightning Lane attractions in advance for a single park.
You can also add more selections throughout the day after redeeming your first one.
Available for multiple parks if you have Park Hopper tickets.
Pricing varies by date and park.
Booked directly in the My Disney Experience app.
Booking Windows:
Disney Resort guests: Can make selections 7 days before check-in, for their entire stay (up to 14 days).
Off-site guests: Can make selections 3 days before each park visit.
Pro Tip: You can pre-select rides and approximate times — giving you a much clearer plan for your day before you even arrive.
Lightning Lane Single Pass
For Disney’s most popular attractions that are not part of the Multi Pass (such as TRON Lightcycle / Run, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance).
Purchased individually in the My Disney Experience app.
You can buy up to 2 per day, depending on the park.
Booking Windows:
Disney Resort guests: 7:00 AM on the day of park visit.
Off-site guests: At the official park opening time.
Why Use Lightning Lanes?
Lightning Lanes can dramatically change how you tour the parks by allowing you to:
Save hours of standing in line.
Fit more attractions, shows, and meals into your day.
Plan your schedule with confidence instead of refreshing the app all day.
Even with the added cost, most guests find it worth every penny for the convenience and flexibility it offers — especially during peak seasons.
Tips for Using Lightning Lanes Efficiently
Book as early as possible once your window opens — top rides like Slinky Dog Dash and Peter Pan’s Flight often fill quickly.
Stack smartly — schedule your selections later in the day if you plan to enjoy shorter standby lines during early entry.
Refresh often — plans change, and availability may reopen throughout the day.
Pair with Early Theme Park Entry if you’re staying at a Disney Resort for an even bigger advantage.
